My family is so funnily paranoid and obsessive about straight pins. As a seamstress, seeing one or two on the floor normally doesn’t bother me. (It’s when you step on the entire pincushion that it hurts. I have experience there.) Unless they have the plastic heads, I can vacuum them up without a second thought. Family, however, is a different story. They are manic about picking them up from the floor (I keep telling them you’re not likely to step on one unless it’s bent and sticking up) and gleefully present them to me like lost treasure. To them, each one is precious. This is starting to sound like a spiritual allegory. That was not intentional.
